Star Homework

This year, we will use a universal homework theme called "Star Homework". Children will have homework Monday thru Thursday. They will choose to do one of the five homework choices a night. They may choose to:

* = Read for at least 20 minutes, fill out the Independent Reading sheet in their binder OR write the title, time read, and short summary on a sheet of paper to turn in signed.

** = Complete the timed reading fluency sheets, sight words, phrases, and passages. The comprehension questions the come with the passages are extra credit. You can print them from here. (<- Click on the link)

** = Complete the spelling/vocabulary words sheet in their binder or on a separate sheet of paper. Write complete sentences using spelling words and/or vocabulary words

*** = Complete the Eureka math lesson homework sheet for the day.

*** = Complete an entire lesson on Zearn.org or I-ready Reading or Math. I-ready can be reached here. They should know their logins by now but if not, the username is their student id# and their password is their eight (8) digit birthday.

They all have a Star Homework Sheet in the front of their binders. Each night they circle the assignment they choose to do. A supervising adult must sign off on their Star homework sheet every night in order for the child's "stars" to count. Your child should turn in their homework the following day.

Stars they have earned for the week should be counted and the total should be written in the box titled, "Total Stars Earned" before school on Friday. Friday we will count the number of stars the class earned as a whole in hopes of reaching our agreed upon goal of 150 stars. If they reach their goal, they earn a Super Fab Friday Fun game.

Dear Visionary Parents!

Welcome to the second quarter of school! Your child is now acclimated to second grade life. Please continue to help your child remember to complete their homework, Monday - Thursday, and to take advantage of the many extra credit opportunities.

Extra Credit Opportunities:

1)Complete math lesson of the day homework and problem set. Parent must check and sign.

2)Complete the Reading Fluency Passages comprehension questions, using 5-star writing rules.

3)Read a non-fiction book or narrative and complete a "Nonfiction" book report with parent signature.

In class, there are multiple opportunities for extra credit when they finish their work.

If your child is not where you'd like them to be academically or they are struggling in any subject, they would greatly benefit from spending time on ZEARN, I-ready, and www.educationgalaxy.com. Not only are these fun sites aligned with the TN standards we teach, they each enrich your child's understading of what's being taught in the classroom. Many parents ask how they can help their child at home, this is it. Make sure they are spending time on these three sites and completing their homework.

I have updated all the student's zearn.org accounts to Module 3. On Zearn, your child can revisit the lesson we learned in class that day. The program will reteach and give them ample practice to gain mastery. We are learning the concept of place values 1, 10, and 100 in module 3 and learning how to count Please keep your child practicing on zearn.org.
