Week of September 18th - 22nd

Hi Parents!

*Update* In your child's Wednesday folder, I have placed a detailed description and full instructions for our home project for the semester. Your child has already chosen an animal to research. They will need your help putting the project they choose together. Some are due next Wednesday, September 27th and the others are due Thursday, September 28th. The date your child's project is due is written on their paper. I did this so we would have time for them to present. They are presenting this to the class and then they will be put on display.

*Scholastic Orders* I am now registered as a teacher in at www.scholastic.com for those of you who would like to order books online.

Wow! Did we have fun at the 80's party on Friday? Yes we did! It was a much needed super charged fun Friday! Thank you so much for your contributions to help us reach the Capital Campaign goal of $35, 000!

October 2nd - Field Trip to the zoo!

October 9th - 13th - Fall Break

Please keep your child practicing on www.zearn.org. How great would it be if they got ahead with the lessons on Zearn?!

Please look in your child's Wednesday Folder for a (pink) permission slip for a Field Trip to the Zoo, Monday, October 2nd. We are scheduled to take a 1-hour, student only, Eco-Explorer class, and then enjoy exhibits through a scavenger hunt. I would love for as many parents to come as you all would like, unfortunately sibling cannot accompany you on this one. Also it is zoo policy that parents NOT attend the class; however, you can grab a cup of coffee in the Cat House Cafe until the class is over.

**We are requesting that money for this trip be turned in NO LATER THAN Wednesday, September 27th, by 8:30 that morning. Which only gives us a week to collect money ($13 CASH, correct change). Parents who have memberships may use their membership; however, students do still have to pay. If you do NOT have a zoo membership, and you would like to chaperone, you will pay $5. **You MUST be approved with a background check in order to chaperone. You can simply present your drivers license to the school office by next Friday.

Please remember to send all money in an envelope or Ziplock sandwich bag with your child's name on it, the amount you sent, and what it is for written on the front.

Please remember to check your child's binder daily for any school notes or unfinished class work that will be graded. Your child will be held responsible for keeping up with papers, books, folders, notebooks, and unfinished classwork. I expect them to return their homework finished the following day. Everything has a place in our classroom and I announce to them all explicitly where to place items when we are done working with them.

Homework for your 2nd Grader is to:

1. Read "Good Fit Books" for 20 minutes each night. It's always good to spend some quality time listening to your child read. A "Good Fit Book" is one that your child is interested in, knows most of the words, and understands what is happening.

2. Practice sight word and passage fluency nightly. Sign off the time and initial.

3. 1-minute Math Sprint.

4. Any class work your child has not finished. It is located in your child's folder in his or her binder on the side labeled "Return".

Last, but not least, please make sure to sign the Wednesday folder sheet and return all graded papers that were sent home.

Thank you all so much, and enjoy this beautiful week.
