February 5 - 9

Hi!

All of second grade will be putting on a Black History program February 23rd. I will be sending parts and scripts home very soon.

Children will have the opportunity to have a Valentine's day card swap. This is NOT a party. They may bring a card or small treat/snack to give to all 21 friends. No names should be written on anyone's card please. There are 22 children in the class, 11 boys and 11 girls. Everyone also needs to bring a small box, like a Kleenex box, to put all their goodies in. Thank you!

Extra Credit can fix an undesirable grade. I provide ample of opportunities for extra credit in class and at home. Completed reading fluencies with answered comprehension questions are counted toward English extra credit, so are the bonus words on spelling tests. For math, students are able to take home the problem set and complete it along with their homework, I will give extra credit for it being complete and correct. Going above and beyond is always extra credit, I have some students turn in book reports completely on their own, I will always give extra credit for things of that nature. Every week I write a bonus for the children under their spelling words that are posted at the front of the classroom, as well. Please encourage them to take advantage of these opportunities.

The use of grade floors are prohibited. All students must receive and keep the original grade they have earned. If a student turns an assignment in late, incomplete, or does not turn in the assignment at all, the student will get the grade that is earned, even if it is a zero. The only exception to this is if they attend Z.A.P. (Zeros are Not Permitted) with Mrs. McNary, to make up work they have missed or would like to redo to make a better grade.

Please continue the reading fluencies with your child as well, you may access them by clicking on this link: Reading Practice
